Treatment Information and Treatment Library The Vancouver Island Persons Living With HIV/ AIDS Society provides the only comprehensive, up-to-date HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Library on Vancouver Island. Resource include: Videos of the inter-disciplinary AIDS Care Rounds from St. Paul's Hospital. These state-of-the-art lectures by various HIV specialists target an audience of health-care professionals. At present there are 39 titles available for loan. Listings are attached. Reference material includes: Official guidelines for the treatment of HIV/AIDS; drug information targeting both professional and consumer groups; actively recruiting clinical drug trials in Canada; comprehensive information on nutrition and HIV; care issues for nurses; and self-care strategies for people with HIV. Nearly 3000 documents are filed chronologically within 275 categories of subject matter. Over two dozen HIV/AIDS treatment newsletters and journals targeting both a professional and consumer audience are received regularly. Medical information is downloaded daily from the internet. Booklets, "simple fact sheets" and FAQ's on HIV medications, disease progression, interpretation of lab tests, and nutrition. Other services include post-test counseling by trained peer (HIV+) supporters, interpretation of lab tests, health promotion and life-enhancement programs; support groups; health promotion seminars. The Treatment Librarian and a pharmacist are available by appointment for private consultations or research assistance.
