Welcoming Martin to the VPWAS Team!

MARTIN is a self described 2 spirited Tlingit and Northern Tutchone young man from the Yukon Territory who currently lives in Victoria, BC. He is a Youth Mentor on the National Indigenous Youth Council on Sexual Health and HIV. Martin has recovered from addictions / mental health that lasted over 17 years and believes that his lived experiences will play a vital role in his dream to become the help he needed so badly while growing up as an aboriginal youth at risk. He is passionate about working with aboriginal youth in mental health & addictions and in the field of HIV/AIDS activism. This position will provide him with valuable work experience towards his future goal of pursuing a career in Social Work.

As Education and Outreach Intern, Martin will assist in developing HIV/AIDS awareness information for use at workshops, seminars and various other outreach initiatives. Martin will participate in community outreach and education programs with a program priority on AIDS/HIV prevention and health awareness.

This position is possible through partnership with AT WORK – VICTORIA, A Canadian Mental Health Association BC Division Employment Project.
